This series was created on 5x7 inch, 300 gsm hot-pressed archival paper. As with most of my work, I began without a clear plan, allowing the process to unfold naturally. I started with lightly watered-down acrylic gouache (the soft pink hue seen beneath the drawings), making spontaneous, loose marks to set the foundation. I worked on each piece individually, returning later with an ink pen to uncover and define the hidden characters within the pink gouache. Once the characters emerged, I added more gouache to enhance the colors. For the final touch, I used my favorite tool, a nib pen dipped in ink.
Typically, I would frame these pieces, but I wanted to preserve their raw edges; I loved them so much I didn’t want to conceal any part of them. Instead, I mounted each piece onto a 5x7 cradled wood panel using a matte gel medium, then finished with a glossy varnish. Each artwork comes wired and ready to hang.
